Natural Pain Management
Dr. Andresen is skilled in treating both acute and chronic pain conditions with effective natural treatment options.
Pain concerns that are frequently addressed with naturopathic medicine and acupuncture include low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, headaches and migraines, TMJ and jaw pain, fibromyalgia, carpel tunnel syndrome, arthritis and plantar fasciitis.
Myofascial Release with Acupuncture
One of them most effective natural options for pain treatment includes a specific acupuncture technique called Myofascial Release (aka. Intramuscular Stimulation or Dry Needling). Dr. Andresen uses this type of acupuncture at her clinic to release muscle trigger points that are often the root cause of pain conditions.
Trigger points are formed with chronic overuse of a muscle (ex. Prolonged sitting, walking) or acute muscle spasm that causes the muscle to be stuck in a contracted position. Releasing these trigger points with Myofascial Release Acupuncture allows the muscle to lengthen properly resulting in reduced pain and increased range of motion.
Decreasing Inflammation with Clinical Nutrition
In addition to acupuncture to release muscle trigger points other natural treatment options include both herbs to decrease inflammation and promote healing in addition to vitamins and minerals that improve muscle function.
As well, food changes may be included to remove foods that may be contributing to pain levels. Some foods contain linoleic acid which is converted something called arachidonic acid which supports the inflammatory response and can worsen pain. Conversely, other foods contain omega 3 fatty acids that can decrease inflammatory by inhibiting an enzyme required for inflammatory prostaglandins to be formed. As a result foods with high omega 3 fatty acids are an important part of natural pain management.
